Around the same time Kerplunk came out, (probably a little before) was when Billie first met his future wife, Adrienne Nesser. She was from Minnesota and she went to one of Green Day's shows. They did start going out but for a while, there was a sort of separation because of the long distance relationship (when Kerplunk came out).

It was now 1994 - time for a new album; and a new label. When Green Day recorded Dookie, they realized that it was really going to be a hit - they weren't going to be doing any more little shows at Gilman, for sure. Several major labels asked them to produce Dookie - Green Day went along with Reprise. The album later sold nearly 4 million copies just that year and it took the three members of Green Day a long time to realize what a big deal that was.

MTV then came up to them to make a video of Longview. It was a real low budget video filmed right in the house they were living at on April 8, 1994 (just have to say that was my second birthday and I was in the hospital that day)! The video appealed to a lot of people - maybe because of the catchy tune or the colors, but it became a big hit. Their next release was Basket Case (personally I like this one better)! and they made another great video - even more colorful than the last! Their last video that was made and became a hit off of Dookie was When I Come Around - I think it might have been their biggest hit off of the album (yet again, not positive of all this)! They also released Welcome To Paradise and She as singles but they weren't as successful as their other three hits.

That summer of 1994, Green Day was asked to play at Woodstock II in New York. This was a huge honor for them; only just starting out and all! Unfortunately, Woodstock II turned out nothing like the first Woodstock years back. It was muddy as hell and a lot of people were getting into fights; a lot of people booed other bands, asking for Green Day to play. When Green Day hit the stage, riots broke out. Billie Joe started throwing mud at the audience and sort of 'egged them on' to throw back; he was really pissed off and you could tell. Eventually, people started throwing mud at them and climbing up on stage with them and the cops had to get them off. One of the cops thought Mike Dirnt was a rioting fan so he threw him down and knocked his two front teeth out. Right after this, Green Day immediately left the place drenched in mud.

Side tracking away from the band a bit, that same summer, on July 2, 1994, Billie Joe and Adrienne Nesser got married. The very next day after their honeymoon, Adrienne found out she was pregnant with what would be their first son, Joey Marciano Armstrong who was born in March, 1995. Around that same time, Tre also had his first daughter, Ramona in January 1995 with Lisea Lyons. He named his daughter after his favorite band, the Ramones. Soon after in March of 1995, Tre and Lisea married but they divorced a year or so later.
